Croeso i Blwyddyn 2 – Welcome to Year 2

 

This term we are exploring Dragons and Castles.

We will be writing Dragon poetry and exploring how castles were built. When XL Wales came in, we spent the whole afternoon building our own castles. They looked amazing and involved lots of discussing ideas and serious team work! Check out some of the pictures on Twitter.

The children have already made a great start by beginning to write Similes to describe Monsters. Soon we will be writing our own. We are looking forward to sharing them with you. So keep an eye on our page.

If you ask your children I wonder if they can tell you what a Simile is?

 

Magic and Mystery

For the first part of the Autumn term, we are going to be looking at Magic and Mystery. We will be exploring the story ‘The Magic Paintbrush’. We have started learning the story already and the children are really enthusiastic. This will be our Literacy focus, but we are also going to be looking at Magical Me, Mystic maps and lots more. Woodland Adventures

As of Friday 22nd September, the children will be involved in outdoor learning in the school woodlands. This will take place even during wetter weather, so please can you make sure your child has waterproofs and wellies on Fridays.

PE lessons

Just to let you know, our PE sessions are on a Monday.  Please can you make sure your child has a PE kit in School.

 

Maths Homework

mathsMaths homework is given out on a weekly basis. The homework, is an extension of the work we have covered in class. It needs to come in by Thursday at the latest and will be sent out again on Friday. If it is done before Thursday, please feel free to send it in.

Spelling Test

Spelling test are on a Friday. Words are sent out Friday the week before spellingso children have a whole week to learn them. As well as learning them at home, children are given the opportunity in class to go over the words using a multi-sensory approach including writing them in sand and also using Spellosaur on the I-pads.
