Blwyddyn 2

Croeso i Dosbarth 2

Welcome to the Sharks Class page.

Welcome to the Year 2 – The Sharks Class page.

This year myself, Mrs. Howard, and Mrs. Bowen, our class TA, will be here to teach, support, guide and care for you all. We hope to have a fantastic year and we look forward to getting to know about each and every one of you.

Our topic this term is ‘Sound of the Sea’ . This will see us learning about the creatures that live in the sea, understanding how to stay safe around water, how we as the human race can affect the eco-system in both good and bad ways and developing our love of the sea through art, music and literature, amongst other things.

To help the weeks roll by as smoothly as possible here are some details for our every day routines in class.

P.E

P.E will  be  on a Monday afternoon and will be dance for this half term. Please  send your child into school dressed in suitable clothing every week that allow for easy movement and comfort.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning in Coed Cadno will be on a Tuesday afternoon. Children will need wellies and suitable waterproof clothing. These sent into school and can either be kept in school in a named bag or come and go as needed each week.

We will also be taking part in Kercraft this term in Y2. All children will have received a consent form that will need to b filled in and returned to school in order for them to participate. These sessions will take place on a Wednesday afternoon and suitable outdoor waterproof clothing will be needed, knowing our good old Swansea wet weather!

P3-P7 Spelling Programme – Broughton PrimarySpelling

Spelling words and times tables homework will be given out on a Tuesday and tests will take place the following Monday. Homework books will need to be in school every Monday, so that new words can be added for the following week. Each child will have 3-5 individual spellings from their weekly work that they have spelt wrong, and then 7-10 spellings that focus on our class phonic blend of the week.

Reading

Reading is the most important skill to learn, keep developing and practice.  I ask that you support your children in their reading by regularly listening to them read, and also by you reading to them and sharing stories at home. Building a positive attitude towards, and hopefully a love, of reading is so important to your child’s development, and this can not be stressed enough.  It is also the perfect time for you to take 10 minutes out of what will undoubtedly be a  busy day, to sit , snuggled together and give them your full attention. Discuss the story, read some together, chat about their day. This together time will in itself help your child to build a happy love of story time with you.  We will listen to the children read in school on a fortnightly basis, splitting our 28 children into 2 manageable groups of 14. This is so we can share meaningful time with each individual child, not only assessing their reading progress but also building positive relations on a one to one basis with each and every one of them. I will post a half term timetable for when each child will need to bring their books and Reading Record to school.

Water bottles and snacks

We believe that children should have access to water throughout the day and ask you to provide your child with a labelled water bottle. Water bottles will be sent home to be washed and refilled daily. If you wish, you can also provide your child with a small, healthy fruit snack, which they will enjoy at morning break.

Here’s to a wonderful year of learning and enjoyment for us all. If you need help, information or clarity on anything, please do not hesitate to contact us and to discuss anything.

Many thanks,

Mrs. Howard + Mrs. Bowen
