Blwyddyn 5

Welcome to the Year 5 Rainbow Fish

Croeso i’r dosbarth Rainbow Fish

Our Topic

Spring Term

Our topic for the Autumn term is ‘We’ll meet again’. During this topic, we will be looking at World War II. The children are really enthused to be learning about this and have some fantastic questions to lead their learning.

Home Learning

Below you will find the home learning menu for the Spring term. The children can choose which task they would like to do in any order (except for the Oracy task which will need to be ready for the week beginning 19th February, and will be done in class that week). Please can I emphasis the importance of preparing your presentation well in advance and practising as much as possible.

The children are expected to submit work electronically via Google Classroom or bring it into school every fortnight

The home learning will be celebrated in class and displayed for the term, before being returned home for safe keeping.

Maths Homework

We appreciate all your hard work and effort to complete home learning and really enjoy seeing your creations!

Spelling and Times Tables

Spellings and Times Table test will be every Friday. Spellings will be available here on the website and in our Year 5 google classroom. Please practice as much as you can, here are some ideas how you can practice: Spelling practice ideas . If you require a paper copy of the spelling words, please let Mrs Davies know.

Children can also practise their times tables on TT Rockstars or on ‘Hit the Button’ on the Topmarks website. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

If you forget which spelling/times table group you are, please contact Mrs. Davies.

P.E & Outdoor learning

P.E. lessons will be on Monday’s (for the first half of the term). You MUST wear your PE kit into school on this day.

We will be doing as much outdoor learning as the weather permits, so please make sure you always wear a coat to school and appropriate footwear.

Reading

We would like to emphasis the importance of regular reading at home. This can be with a grown up or individually, read out loud or in their head. If you can’t find your niche of books you like to read, why not try a comic style book?

Reading records will be checked every Friday – these can have parent or pupil comments.

The class will take part in Guided Reading every week and have opportunities to read independently throughout the day. We will also be enjoying reading a range of Welsh texts throughout the term. Please remember your reading book every day, or you may use books from our school library.

Masgot Cymreig

The Welsh mascots are back in Hendrefoilan! Year 5 will have the opportunity to take home ‘Daffy’ the daffodil hat, ready for a week of fun. We challenge you to find the best places to take a selfie with Daffy and share in Welsh the adventures you get up to.

As well as the hat, you will also have some help sheets (please use these and not google translate). One pupil will take home Daffy every Wednesday-Wednesday. Please upload your selfies and sentences to Google classroom. We will share and celebrate in class. Diolch!

Blwyddyn 5 a 6 – Help sheets

If mums and dads have any concerns or worries feel free to contact the school office by email, and we will respond as soon as we can.

Diolch,

Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Schocker
