Welcome to the Year 5 Rainbow Fish class page!
Croeso pawb! Your teacher this year is Miss Dalton and we are delighted to have Mrs Davies working with us. We’ve been having a brilliant time so far in Year 5 and are excited for our last term together.
Our Topic – Summer 2022
Our topic for the Summer print is ‘Footprints’, learning about our environmental impact and human rights. We will be exploring ancient history including time ‘pre-man’ and learning about exercise and drugs through Science. Our topics are pupil centred, ensuring that the class voice directs the learning. We are excited to see where we go on our learning journey this term.
Our Topic – Spring 2022
Our topic for the Spring term is Bend & Flow, focusing on Rivers of Wales. We have many exciting things planned, including (hopefully) a trip to River Ilston with Nature Days and entering the Enterprise Troopers Competition.

A menu of SIX tasks will be given and you will have a choice of which activity to complete over each two week period. By the end of the term you will be expected to have completed all six tasks in full and to the best of your ability. This year the homework can come into school or can be shared via the Google Classroom. Your work will be shared and celebrated within the classroom, as we love to see your hard work.

Spelling and Times Tables
Spellings and Times Table test will be on Fridays. Spellings will be available here on the website and in our Year 5 google classroom. Please practice as much as you can, here are some ideas how you can practice: Spelling practice ideas . If you require a paper copy of the spelling words, please let Miss Dalton know.
Spelling words for the Summer second half term: Summer2 2022 Y5 Spelling
*NEW*We are also adding three words which have been spelt incorrectly from our work in class. These will be chosen on a Monday and must be learnt in addition to the spelling list. We hope this will be beneficial.
Children can also practise their times tables on TT Rockstars or on ‘Hit the Button’ on the Topmarks website. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Your new spelling and times table groups will be shared in class after the Easter holidays. If you forget which group you are, please contact Miss Dalton.
P.E. lessons will be on MONDAY. You MUST wear your PE kit into school on this day.
We would like to emphasis the importance of regular reading at home. This can be with a grown up or individually, read out loud or in their head. If you can’t find your niche of books you like to read, why not try a comic style book? Reading records will be checked every Friday – these can have parent or pupil comments.
The class will take part in Guided Reading every week and have opportunities to read independently throughout the day. Please remember your reading book every day, or you may use books from our school library.
For 2022, we will be starting Magazine Monday. You are welcome to bring a magazine in to read on a Monday or borrow one from the class library.
Any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
